4 HELPFUL TIPS FOR TRAVELLING AS A VEGAN
I love to travel and I love food. Travelling on a vegan diet does create more challenges when it comes to convenience. But over the years, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Even in the most unexpected places, I’ve still been able to have an incredible vegan meal. I would say that Europe has been the place where veganism is most widely adopted and recognized.
No matter where you go in the world, these 4 helpful tips for travelling as a vegan will benefit you:
Download the Happy Cow app
I’ve always used the Happy Cow website, but if you download the app, it will show you vegan restaurants and stores based on your current location, which is so helpful when you’re in a foreign place. You could even use it to discover new places close to your home. There is a small fee for the app and, in my opinion, it’s worth it!
Do some research before you go
Before you leave, I would recommend researching vegan restaurants or ones that have vegan options close to where you’re staying. I would also recommend researching some foods and dishes that are native to the area that could potentially be made vegan. When I was in Greece, I discovered that some of their traditional dishes like gyro, gemista, and dolmades could be made vegan.

Learn how to say “no meat”, “no cheese” and “no egg”
I’ve travelled to a few places where they don’t speak a lot of English and there isn’t always a word for ‘vegan’ in other languages. I would recommend learning how to say “no meat”, “no cheese”, and “no egg” in the language where you’re travelling.
Bring snacks
In case of an emergency, I always bring some protein powder and protein bars with me while I’m travelling. If there’s anything else you can’t live without, make sure you pack a travel-sized version of it.
